Struggling with outfits ideas for your session? Suffolk Newborn Photographer Ewa Skapski will help you with inspiration!
As a newborn photographer on Long Island, I often get asked for newborn session outfit ideas. While there are endless possibilities, I always encourage families to consider outfits that will be comfortable for both baby and parents. After all, newborn sessions can last up to two hours!
I love being able to capture all of the newborn’s details and the love of the family. Here are a few ideas for newborn session outfits that are sure to make your photos extra special and timeless.
My personal favorite – for my style studio newborn photography style are all white, minimalistic outfits. Simple, white onesie for the baby is always my first choice. Less is more when it comes to newborn photography. Onesies are always a good option, and they can be easily dressed up or down depending on the look you’re going for.
As a Suffolk Newborn Photographer I like to shop local for my little clients. Local Target has always white onesies in stock if you have to run last minute to grab one. Here is the link to some basic, simple and very affordable option. I also always keep extra onesies on hand in the studio, just in case we need to change baby.
Parents outfits
For parents If you want to include a little color, opt for something pastel-hued like light pink, blue, grey, light brown is also ok. These colors will complement the newborn’s outfit while still keeping things subdued. Family outfits should coordinate with the newborn’s outfit but don’t have to match perfectly. Similar colors or patterns can be a nice touch.
SIBLINGS
If you’re looking to include siblings in your newborn session, coordinate their outfits with something simple, like a white summer dress for older sister, or simple white t-shirt for older brother. This will help them to blend in with the newborn’s outfit and not take away from the focus of the photo. For newborns, I always recommend sticking with simple, solid-colored outfits. White is always a classic choice, but you can also go for a light cream or even a very pale blue or pink.
Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something that won’t be too hot or uncomfortable for your newborn. It’s very important to consider your newborn baby comfort. Newborns can be fussy, so it’s important to choose an outfit that won’t make them overheat or irritate their skin. Natural fabrics like cotton are usually best. And, of course, always make sure the outfit is nice and clean before the session! They should be relaxed and happy during their session, and an uncomfortable outfit will only add to their stress.
For a more formal newborn session, a family might choose to dress baby in a white onesie with a matching bonnet. Or, for a laid-back sibling session, big brother or sister could wear their favorite jeans and t-shirt.
Finally, don’t forget about accessories! A cute headband or can really make an outfit pop. I provide my little clients with selection of cute and adorable headbands for your baby. You can always bring your own – just be sure not to go overboard – remember, the focus should be all on the baby and not the accessories.
